The Week in Review (What I drank in a sentence or less)

  • Breckenridge Brewing-Porter Porter-Part of their Small Batch Series, a very good &% Porter. Enjoyed this bomber in the SA 22oz glass!
  • Breckenridge Brewing-Mighty Brown-Another of their Small Batch Series and again a solid beer.
  • Bullfrog Brewery-Gothika-This is a collaboration brew with Bavarian Barbarian and is described as a Bourbon Lagered Dopplebock. Had it on tap at Bullfrog and it was pretty good but not the best Bourbon barrel beer I've had.
  • Bullfrog Brewery-KFC pumpkin Stout-Not sure what the KFC is but this was an interesting beer in it's description-basically a Milk Stout with some roasted sugar pumpkin and pie spices. It didn't really work for me.
  • Bullfrog Brewery-Edgar IPA, an 8% IPA and a solid IPA at that. Great tap handle as well.
  • Otto's Pub-Slab Cabin-Picked this up from Wegman's Williamsport. It is from a brewpub in State College. Pretty solid IPA and priced at $3.99 a bomber.
  • Fegley's Brew Works-Hop Explosion-Had this on tap at the Blue Monkey. It was not very hoppy at all and a disappointment given I have enjoyed their other beers I tried.
  • Mikkeller-Beer Geek Brunch-UNBELIEVABLY GOOD!
  • Founders Backwoods Bastard-I love this beer and look forward to it each year.
  • Sierra Nevada-Northern Hemisphere-A great, fresh hops beer.
  • Slyfox-O'Reilly's Stout-3.8% and a great way to end the night at The Blue Monkey

The Week in Review (What I drank in a sentence or less)

  • Guinness Foreign Extra Stout-Available for the first time in the US and the best of the 3 Guinness. I had it first in St. Lucia and then a second time at the brewery in Dublin. Now it is available here.
  • Stone San Diego Session Ale-A collaborative brew with Ballast Point and North Park Beer.
  • Sierra Nevada Estate Homegrown Ale-A wet hop ale. I had it at the Bell tasting this past weekend, quite good.
  • Bell's Expedition Stout-Very Good. Will age well at 9.5%.
  • Founders Breakfast Stout-Again, a great beer!
  • Terrapin Side Project The Dark Side-Another Stout for the week, and another good one.
  • Coffee Porter (My home brew)-After all those stouts I figured I would revisit my Coffee Porter which is quite "stoutish".

The Week in Review (What I drank in a sentence or less)

  • Stone Vertical Epic 10.10.10-Good beer, described as a Belgian Tripel with a couple of left turns. This reminds me a little of DFH Red and White.
  • Southern Tier Harvest Ale-Had it on tap at the Blue Monkey, a solid sessionable fall beer!
  • Evolution Brewing Lot No. 3 IPA-I picked up a 6 pack while staying in Salisbury MD. Very Solid IPA at a great price.

  • Evolution Brewing Lucky 7 Porter-Had it on tap at The Greene Turtle in Salisbury MD while watching the Phillies game.

  • Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale-I have not had this beer in quite a while and forgot how good it was.

  • Lagunitas IPA-Had it at Blue Monkey while watching The Phillies game....Good IPA.

  • Evolution Brewing Menagerie 2-I purchased a growler of this at the brewery, it is their Lucky 7 porter aged for 6 months in bourbon barrels and then added to a smaller amount of their Coffee Stout-Delicious!

  • Lilja's Sasquatch Stout-Another of the amazing Bell Beverage Case deals, $10.99 a case, I bought 2! Good Stout!

  • Lilja's Pulling Boat Pale Ale-Yes, another $10.99 case. What more can I say!

  • Founders Breakfast Stout-Such a good beer. I purchased this 4 pack at the West Deptford Canal's. Great Beer.

  • Duck Rabbit Milk Stout-From NC and the Dark Beer specialists.....A great Milk Stout

  • Brown's Brewing Oatmeal Stout-Brown's Brewing from Troy NY (I have never heard of them). A friend gave this to me and it was a decent beer. I'll have to research this brewery and see what else they have.

The Week in Review (What I drank in a sentence or less)

  • Bell's Best Brown Ale (mini Keg)-Had this during Saturday's Phillies vs. Giants game. A great beer but unfortunately the beer was way better than the results of the game.
  • Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA-I had this several times last week, on tap at a hotel, at Helium Comedy Club and in bottles. All fresh, All good!
  • Nodding Head Harvest Ale (cask)-Enjoyed a few too many of this great beer!
  • Yards ESA-Had it on tap at McGlinchey's after too many Harvest Ales so not much to say.
  • Lancaster Milk Stout-By far their best beer, and I am anxiously awaiting a new version this year-Double Chocolate Milk Stout.
  • Lancaster Hop Hog IPA-Not sure if mine was out of code but it was not good.
  • The Point Burly Brown Ale-Bought a case for $10.99, not an exceptional beer but certainly worth the price and quite drinkable.
  • Hook & Ladder Flashpoint Pale Ale-Also a $10.99 case and again a great value-Decent beer at an unbelievable price.

The Week in Review (What I drank in a sentence or less)

  1. Sam Adams Dunkelweizen-Part of the Sam Harvest Variety-It says it is exclusive to this variety pack but I swear I had it before. Good beer, nothing exceptional but good and representative of the style.
  2. Sam Adams Harvest Pumpkin-Again, exclusive to the variety pack. A decent Pumpkin beer. I am not a huge Pumpkin beer fan so you'll not get much more from me than "decent".
  3. Sly Fox Burns Scotch Ale-Had it on tap at the Blue Monkey while watching the Phillies beat the Reds. Very good-Both the beer and the Phillies win!
  4. Troegs Dead Reckoning-A favorite of mine each Fall.
  5. Yards ESA-I have had this beer many times and always enjoyed but this one cost $12 at Tower Theatre and tasted off. I don't think they keep the lines in good shape so after being disappointed, I switched to:
  6. Guinness-Again $12 and at Tower Theatre and again it tasted off. Lesson Learned: Avoid Beer at this venue!
  7. Founders Harvest Ale-Great hop aroma and great Hop flavor! Enjoyed this beer a lot.
  8. Great Divide Rumble-Oak Aged IPA, I had to try it. Very good.
  9. Left Hand Oxymoron (A Teutonic IPA)-Tastes as hoppy as an IPA but is a Pale Lager and I think it is a one off beer with another brewery-Definitely worth seeking out.
  10. Weyerbacher Big Ern (DIPA)-Had this on tap at the Uno's in Maple Shade NJ and the menu says it is brewed exclusively for the Uno's chain. This location has a really solid beer lineup (The previous 3 entries were also had at Unos).
  11. Brassiere Dieu du Ciel-Peche Mortel-An Imperial Coffee stout. A style I love and this beer did not disappoint, very good!

The Week in Review (What I drank in a sentence or less)

  1. Harpoon Leviathan Series-Triticus-This beer was first brewed a few years ago and the brothers from Beer advocate were involved. Not sure if they were this brew, and I never tried last time, so no comparison here. Surprisingly good, I was not expecting it t o be as good for some reason. The high abv is hidden well.
  2. Victory Storm King-This bottle was about 6 months old and as good as ever, such a good beer!
  3. DuClaw Brewing-Black Jack Stout-Deep black, the way a Russian Imperial Stout should be-Very tasty and great aromas
  4. Bell's Two Hearted Ale-(Part of the Bell Beverage Sampling) A great IPA, Centennial Hops a plenty!
  5. Bell's Kalamazoo Stout-Very smooth. (Bell Beverage Sampling)
  6. Bell's Porter-Another winner! (Bell Beverage Sampling)
  7. Too many to name from Blue Monkey Octoberfest but the standouts: Dogfish Palo Santo Marron (a fav of mine), Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin, Stone Cali-Belgique, Troegs Dead Reckoning (another fav), Left Hand 400 Pound Monkey

The Week in Review (What I drank in a sentence or less)

(A little late on this post...)
  1. Weyerbacher Lima-Had it on tap at Blue Monkey Tavern-Black IPA, pretty good but I feel like every brewery is currently brewing a Black IPA.
  2. White Birch Espresso Imperial Stout-Very good beer. I love coffee and I love beer so it is usually a great combo. Thanks to Bob for getting this bottle to me.
  3. Heavy Seas Loose Cannon-Very drinkable. Also had this on tap at Blue Monkey Tavern.
  4. Ithaca Cascazilla-Being from upstate NY, I have always been glad to get Ithaca beers in the Philly region-Great beer.
  5. Southern Tier IPA-I took this beer to a wine and Cheese party as my drink of choice that night. Glad I did. Solid beer, but I love the 2XIPA.
  6. Stoudt's Octoberfest-Had this while tailgating at the Phillies last home game. Good beer, even though the Phillies lost that game.
  7. Yards Philly Pale Ale-Had it at Citizen's Bank Park, usually I get Hop Devil but it was replaced by Sam Octoberfest so I got this-Always a good beer!

The Week in Review (What I drank in a sentence or less)

  1. Uinta Crooked Line Series-Cockeyed Cooper-A bourbon Barrel aged barley wine. I have not had much from this brewery but this was good, I will have to seek out others from the Crooked Line.
  2. Resurrection Ale-I picked up a 6 pack of cans of this beer from Baltimore. 7% Belgian ale in a can, Good stuff.
  3. Sam Adams Sample A (Belgian Style IPA)-Part of the Sam Adams Beer Lover's Choice program. A good beer but not quite as good as Flying Dog's version of the style.
  4. Sam Adams Sample B (American Rye Ale)-Sometimes I don't care for Rye ales, especially if there is a lot of Rye but this was good and not too much Rye. It also seemed to be the crowd favorite of the two.
  5. Sam Adams Latitude 48 IPA-This is a very good IPA. Now available year round, it is nice to have a solid IPA option from Sam Adams.
  6. Sam Adams Black Lager-I had not have not had this for a couple of years and forgot how good it is. Almost like a porter. A very good beer.
  7. DuClaw Brewing Serum-A Double IPA. Very Hoppy and at 9% a bit overpowering. Not quite as balanced as I would have liked.
  8. Rogue John John Hazelnut-This is the 3rd installment of the John John Ales and again as with the first two, it is a bit disappointing. I had high expectations for this one as I really enjoy the nuttiness of the Hazelnut and figured the rum barrel aging would add to it. Instead I feel like they traded the nuttiness for a rum flavor. It is good, probably my favorite of the three so far but I was hoping for more.
